Warmer spring weather means more motorcycles on the roads

As the long dark cold days of winter start to appear in our rearview and brighter warmer sunny days are on the horizon as we move toward spring, new hazards may present themselves on the roads. Warmer weather in general, whether it is here in New Albany, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky or anywhere in the area tends to bring people outdoors. We will see more joggers and cyclers, more kids playing in their yards and more motorcyclists on the roads.

While the cold weather generally keeps bikers off the streets, even one day of relative warmth means that motorcycle enthusiasts fire up their Harleys and Hondas and hit the roads. It is important to be mindful of this, as motorcycles are generally harder to see on the roads, and motorcycle accidents have a far greater chance of leading to serious accidents with potentially catastrophic or deadly results.

This increased awareness should run both ways. While car drivers should be more mindful of the potential of bikers on the road, motorcycle riders need to keep in mind that most car drivers have not seen bikes on the roads for months and may be less likely to exercise the necessary caution to avoid an accident.

Unfortunately, one can never fully prevent an accident from occurring. You could be the safest driver on the road, yet you cannot account for the skill of the person beside you. Accidents occur all the time, and most can be prevented by using caution while on the road. If you have been the victim of any motor vehicle accident, however, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries if it can be proven that the other driver or rider was at fault in the accident. This may be difficult to prove, however, and you might want to speak with a law professional familiar with accident claims to discuss your options.
