Teen Charged for Abusing Infant Victim

Witnesses tipped off Paducah police about an infant victim left in a dumpster.

Around 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, an infant victim was found in a dumpster outside Fernwood Apartments at Berger Road and Goodman Drive in Paducah, Kentucky. Several witnessed saw a young black man throw away an unknown item, and upon closer examination, discovered the full-term newborn. The incident was reported to police. Emergency responders arrived to take the baby to a nearby hospital where she remains in stable condition.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department obtained a search warrant and found several incriminating items, leading to the identification of the 17-year-old who abandoned the infant victim. According to the sheriff's department, he admitted dumping the infant victim when interviewed. The teen is being held at the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center and faces charges of attempted murder, criminal abuse in the first degree, and tampering with physical evidence.

Sergeant Darrin Frommeyer of the sheriff's department reports that the teen male is the teen mom's boyfriend. Hours after the infant victim was found, the 15-year-old mother was admitted to the hospital for bleeding.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate this infant victim case with likelihood of additional charged being made.
